Menopause – Symptoms and Treatment
Â
Woman in the age group of thirty five and above go through an excruciatingly painful period of menopause â?? the time when their reproductive ability ends. What happens during menopause is that the hormones â?? estrogen, progesterone, testosterone and androgen stop secreting and the body tries to cope without these hormones. What follow is undue weight gain, stress and dietary irregularities.
Â
Weight gain, feeling stressed out and irritated and feeling hunger pangs could all be symptoms of menopause. While weight gain could be a symptom for other things as well, women at menopause put on weight more on their stomach region than anywhere else. They start to have a pronounced belly and they literally become round unlike the times of pregnancy when the stomach becomes kind of pear shaped. Muscles start becoming rounder and rounder at the belly region and the woman finally loses shape.
Â
Since the hormones stop functioning absorption of insulin in the blood could also become a problem and women who face this can get this treated by having foods rich in carbohydrates and proteins. Women might also find them becoming susceptible to fragile bones and in some cases even osteoporosis. This could mean the woman needs calcium food supplements for sustenance.
Â
Another point that needs to be noted here is that they could face problems of lower metabolism rate â?? whereby the body converts all the food it has access into fat. This happens because with age the body loses muscle tissue where the metabolism happens. Thus the body tends to keep storing away the food as fat for a later use.
Â
What women during this stage need to do is follow a simple and regular diet plan â?? whereby they eat at almost the same time everyday and they eat smaller more nutritious foods containing vegetables and fruits and avoid unhealthy, high calorie foods. There are some foods which act as depressants and women must strictly shoo them away. Regular and routine exercises of simple forms like yoga or aerobics should be followed by menopausal women and this will try to balance out the stress in their bodies as well as helping the women to lose weight that she has inadvertently gained.
